The Philippine Bank of Communications has named John Cary Ong as its president and chief executive-designate, setting up a leadership handover once a transition period and regulatory approvals are complete. He will succeed Patricia May Siy, who has led the bank for roughly a decade.
Ong joins from Security Bank, where he most recently served as head of wholesale banking, overseeing corporate lending, deposits, leasing, and institutional client services. His move brings a seasoned corporate banker to the top job at PBCOM.
He carries about thirty years of experience across several institutions, including UnionBank, Citibank, Deutsche Bank, and Security Bank. Over that career he has worked in corporate banking, treasury, transaction banking, and trade finance.
The appointment follows a period of recovery and expansion at PBCOM under Siy’s leadership. The bank regained its universal banking license in 2023 and reported record earnings of about 2.5 billion pesos in 2025.
Bank officials framed the change as part of an orderly succession, with the incoming chief expected to build on recent gains. The transition will proceed once the necessary approvals are secured, the bank said.
