[Ridgefield, Connecticut] – A new report from World Commerce & Contracting (WorldCC) reveals that AI adoption in commercial and contract management is steadily increasing, with organizations leveraging artificial intelligence for summarization, analytics, risk assessment, and contract drafting. However, the study also highlights security, privacy, and data governance as major barriers to widespread AI implementation.

The report AI Adoption in Contracting: Aspiration and Excitement Tempered by the Demands of Achieving Successful Adoption,” examines current trends, challenges, and future opportunities for AI in the field. While enthusiasm for AI is high, organizations are proceeding cautiously, with some leading the way and others struggling with implementation hurdles.

According to the report, companies adopting AI in commercial and contract management see significant improvements in efficiency and risk reduction. AI tools are helping organizations accelerate workflows, reduce errors, and enhance compliance. However, many remain hesitant to fully integrate AI into their core contracting processes due to concerns over data security, privacy regulations, and AI governance frameworks.

“AI is no longer optional—organizations that fail to integrate AI into their commerce and contracting processes risk falling behind,” said Sally Guyer, CEO of WorldCC. “The challenge now is not whether AI should be adopted, but how to ensure its responsible and effective implementation.”

The report identifies a growing gap between AI early adopters and those lagging behind. While some organizations are actively upskilling teams and refining AI governance policies, others cite lack of AI literacy and internal resistance to change as significant obstacles.

To help address these challenges, WorldCC has launched several initiatives, including:

  • International Summits & Webinars – Providing real-world AI use cases and insights from experts.
  • Research & Reports – Covering the impact of AI on job roles, stakeholder management, and compliance.
  • AI Contracting Week – A two-day digital takeover (June 24-25) event dedicated to exploring the transformative impact of AI on commercial and contracting practices.

“AI will not replace commercial and contract professionals but will redefine their roles, allowing them to move beyond transactional tasks and into strategic decision-making,” said Tim Cummins, President of WorldCC. “The key to success is equipping professionals with the skills and frameworks needed to implement AI effectively and ethically.”

The report concludes that AI will play a critical role in contract lifecycle management (CLM), enabling businesses to scale more efficiently and drive revenue growth. As organizations refine their AI strategies, contract professionals will transition from administrative functions to high-value strategic roles.

WorldCC encourages organizations to assess their AI readiness, invest in training programs, and engage in industry-wide discussions to ensure AI adoption aligns with compliance, security, and operational goals.
