Golden TW Courts a Global Hotel Brand for Its Next Boracay Phase

Golden TW Realty and Development Corp. is in talks with a major hospitality brand to build a second hotel and luxury villas on its 23-hectare property in Boracay. The plan follows the company’s initial P3-billion investment in Kaban, a hotel and casino that officially opened on October 11. The new phase would be a long-term project, and the company is treating Kaban as the first step in a much larger build-out.

Kevin Wong, president and chief executive of Golden TW and Kaban, said the next phase could include about 100 accommodation units spread across roughly 20 hectares. The company wants low-rise rooms, luxury villas and residences, and it plans to keep open space along the property’s 600-metre beachfront. Wong said the goal is to bring “a big brand to come in”, though Golden TW has not named the partner or set a construction timetable while negotiations continue.

The full development is planned as a mixed-use tourism destination covering hospitality, retail, dining, entertainment and gaming, and could take about 10 years to finish in three phases. Kaban, the first phase, sits on about one hectare and held a soft opening on September 16 before its formal launch. The second phase, Boracay Central, is a one-hectare shopping complex with restaurants, coffee shops and clothing stores, targeted to open in the first quarter of 2027. The branded hotel and residences form the third phase and depend on securing the hotel partner.

The roughly P3 billion spent on Kaban came from a mix of equity and loans from Philippine Business Bank. The property includes rooms, dining, wellness facilities, entertainment venues and a gaming area licensed by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. Wong played down the casino’s weight in the project, describing gaming as “just one part” of what guests will find there.

Access is part of the plan as well. Golden TW intends to build a jetty that would give guests a more direct route from Caticlan, and Wong expects the continuing upgrade of Caticlan Airport to bring more international visitors to the island. The company also expects to create jobs for Boracay residents as more of its businesses open over the coming years. If the hotel talks succeed, the resort would add an internationally recognised name to one of the country’s most visited destinations.
